Totnes is a small town located in Devon, England on the River Dart. It is approximately 10 miles south of Exeter and 10 miles east of Plymouth. The population of Totnes is approximately 8,000 people, making it the 17th largest town in Devon. The town is known for its historical buildings, independent shops, small businesses, and successful market.

Totnes is an ancient settlement, with evidence of Iron Age and Bronze Age settlements. The town was originally called Tratenece, which means ‘the town on the banks of the River Dart'. It is believed that Totnes was founded by the Romans in the 1st century, and was named after the local Iron Age tribe, the Dumnonii. During the Saxon period, Totnes was a small port and market town.

Totnes is known for its historical buildings, many of which are listed and protected. The town has many old churches, including the Church of St Mary, which dates back to the 12th century. The Totnes Guildhall is one of the oldest town halls in England, dating back to the 14th century.

Totnes has a successful market, which has been running for over 800 years. It is held every Friday and Saturday and is filled with local produce, crafts, and other goods.
