Slapton Sands is a stunning beach located in the coastal town of Slapton in Devon, England. It stretches for three miles along the eastern coast of the South Hams district, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach is a beautiful mixture of golden sand and pebbles, and is one of the most popular beaches in the area.

The beach is bordered by the sea to the east and the freshwater Slapton Ley Nature Reserve to the west. It is a popular destination for those looking for a peaceful day out, and is a great spot for swimming, fishing, and surfing. Slapton Sands is a National Trust property, and is managed by the South Hams District Council.

The beach is also home to a unique World War II history. During the war, the beach was used as a training ground for the Allies, as it was seen as a topographical likeness to the Normandy coast. In 1943, the military conducted an exercise called Operation Tiger, which was a rehearsal for the D-Day landings. On the night of April 28th, German torpedo boats attacked the convoy of ships, sinking three of them and killing 749 American servicemen. The incident became known as the ‘Slapton Sands Tragedy', and a memorial was erected in memory of those who lost their lives.

The beach is also a popular spot for wildlife. In the summer months, Slapton Sands is home to a number of seabird species, including terns, gulls, and guillemots. It is also a popular spot for wading birds, such as curlews, oystercatchers, and redshanks. The beach is also home to a colony of rare natterjack toads and the rare marsh fritillary butterfly.

Slapton Sands is a great spot for a family day out. There are ample parking facilities, and the beach is easily accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is a lifeguard service in the summer months, and a number of cafes, pubs, and restaurants in the area.
