Stoke Gabriel is a charming parish village located in the South Hams district of Devon, England. Sitting on the banks of the River Dart, the area is steeped in history and offers plenty for visitors and locals alike to explore and enjoy.

The village itself is believed to have Saxon origins, with the name originating from St. Gabriel. It is thought the settlement was in existence by the 10th century, however there is evidence of a pre-existing Roman settlement in the area.

To the north of the village lies Duncannon, a small hamlet and picturesque nature reserve. This area is home to a number of wildlife species, including otters, herons, kingfishers and even a few rare species of butterflies. Duncannon also offers visitors the chance to explore a beautiful stretch of the River Dart, with plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating and swimming.

Away from the river, Stoke Gabriel also boasts a number of interesting attractions. The village has some delightful walks and trails, taking in some of the local wildlife and countryside. There is also a number of nature reserves in the area, including the nearby Avon Estuary nature reserve.

Stoke Gabriel is also home to a number of interesting museums and heritage sites. The local museum offers a fascinating insight into the area's history, whilst the nearby Grade 1 listed Agar House is a great place to learn about the area's past. Other attractions include the remains of Stoke Gabriel Castle, a Norman motte and bailey fortification, as well as the nearby South Devon Railway, one of the oldest steam railways in the country.

As a result of its picturesque location and fascinating history, Stoke Gabriel is a popular destination for visitors. The village regularly hosts a number of events and festivals throughout the year, including the annual Stoke Gabriel Regatta and the Shaldon Water Carnival. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink in the village, offering visitors a range of traditional English cuisine.

Stoke Gabriel is a delightful and diverse village, offering a unique and charming experience for visitors and locals alike. With its stunning views of the River Dart and plenty of interesting attractions, it is easy to see why the area is so popular with visitors.
